Niishu no Sekisho Senbei

The Niishu Checkpoint is the only one of its kind in the country where the original buildings still exist. Sold near its grand gate, these 'Sekisho Senbei' (Checkpoint Rice Crackers) are a specialty of Niishu-juku. Baked using traditional methods, these crackers have been nicknamed 'Atobiki Senbei' (lingering senbei) because their deliciousness makes you reach for another one immediately. With a rich variety including sesame, peanut, ginger, and seaweed, they carry on the legacy of the confectionery district that once delighted travelers passing along the highway. After a crisp, light crunch, a savory aroma spreads gently through your mouth. The scent of sesame, the subtle spiciness of ginger, and the briny aroma of seaweed—once you finish one, you can't help but reach for the next. This bag is a delightful companion, whether served with tea or enjoyed while walking the old highway.
