Fukutaro Mochi of Mishima Taisha
Smooth kozan (fine red bean paste) gently envelops the vibrant green kusamochi. With a single bite, the refreshing aroma of mugwort drifts through the nose, followed by a delicate sweetness that spreads softly. The freshly pounded mochi is soft and chewy. Carefully selected glutinous rice and adzuki beans enhance the natural aroma and moderate sweetness. The name "Fukutaro" is derived from a character who appears in the "Otauchi Shinji" (Rice Pounding Ritual) held every New Year at Mishima Taisha. Known as a lucky figure who scatters good fortune, it has long been loved as a souvenir for shrine visitors. The green mochi paired with black bean paste—its simple appearance is enough to bring a smile to your face. Please enjoy it with a cup of warm tea after your visit to the shrine.
