Kaminari Okoshi
Crispy and crunchy. A light texture and gentle sweetness spread throughout your mouth. When you think of Asakusa, you think of this Kaminari Okoshi. The name originates from the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) of Senso-ji Temple. It has been cherished as a souvenir for those visiting Kannon or seeking protection from thunder. Furthermore, its auspicious meaning—to 'bring up' fortune and 'rise up' one's name—is one of the reasons it has been loved for so long. The long-established Tokiwado Kaminari Okoshi Honpo is said to have been founded in the 13th year of the Bunka era (1816). It moved to its current location near Kaminarimon during the mid-Meiji era and has continued to protect the taste of Asakusa for over 200 years. Simply enjoying it while walking through Nakamise allows you to experience the atmosphere of old Edo. As a classic Asakusa souvenir, please give it a try.
