Mamegen's Bean Crackers

With a crisp bite, a savory aroma and gentle sweetness spread through your mouth. These are the bean crackers from Mamegen, a long-standing establishment in Azabu-juban. Founded in Keio 1 (1865). The first proprietor, Surugaya Genbe, used to walk through the downtown area of Edo pulling a stall with roasted beans on his shoulder, and was affectionately known as "Genbe-san of the bean shop." It is said that the shop name "Mamegen" was born from this nickname. While the business initially focused on roasted beans, it later expanded its variety to include rice crackers and bean snacks; today, a diverse range of products such as salted beans and okoshi (puffed rice) line the storefront. Simple yet irresistible. The flavors of the Edo period live on even today. If you visit Azabu-juban, why not pick up a bag as a souvenir?
