Onuma Dango

The expiration date is, surprisingly, only the day of production. Because of this, they are a specialty of Onuma Park that you can only encounter locally. They are made by 'Numa no Ie'. It is said that they began being sold as souvenirs around the time when Onuma was designated as a prefectural park in 1905 and the number of tourists visiting by train increased. The wooden box is divided into two sections to represent Onuma and Ko-numa (Small Onuma), and the bite-sized dumplings are said to represent the islands floating in Onuma. There are two varieties: red bean paste with soy sauce, and sesame with soy sauce. They offer a simple, honest flavor without the use of preservatives. Enjoying freshly made, soft dumplings while gazing at Mt. Komagatake. This is a masterpiece counted as one of the four great Japanese sweets of Hakodate.
