Right next to New Chitose Airport, you can encounter a bottle that truly embodies Hokkaido. The operator of Chitose Winery is Hokkaido Chuo Wine, which has dedicated itself solely to winemaking since its founding in 1988. The first thing that catches your eye is the heavy stone cellar built with Sapporo soft stone, nestled on a hill in the city center. Using Kerner and Pinot Noir grown in contract vineyards in Yoichi Town, as well as Chitose's specialty fruit, Haskap, they bring out a refreshing acidity and rich fruitiness unique to this cool climate. In particular, the Haskap fruit wine is a rare find that you can only encounter here. With a reservation-based tour, you can enjoy tastings after seeing the brewing site. Please be sure to stop by at either the beginning or the end of your journey.
