Yoitomake
A roll castella generously filled with Haskap jam. With a single bite, the intense sweet and sour flavor of the jam spreads through your mouth along with the fluffy sponge cake. The true essence of this treat lies in its luxurious amount of jam—so much so that your hands might get sticky. Produced by Sansei, a long-established shop in Tomakomai. It has been loved for over half a century since its release in 1953. The name originates from the rhythmic chant "Yoito, maita!" used by workers unloading logs in the paper-making city of Tomakomai. Even the outer layer of jam, representing tree bark, is a playful nod to these logs. It is a lovable treat, sometimes even called 'Japan's most difficult confection to eat.'
