Red-crowned Crane Egg
The red-crowned crane is a Special Natural Monument of Japan, seen dancing through the Kushiro Marsh. This elegant, egg-shaped chocolate confection is modeled after its graceful form. When you crack the white shell, you will find moist castella sponge cake filled with yellow bean paste and smooth chocolate. Produced by Hase Seika in Kushiro, this treat was first released in 1989, and its packaging was refreshed in 2019. In addition to the plain flavor, strawberry flavor is also included in assorted boxes. It is said that a portion of the sales goes toward red-crowned crane conservation efforts, making this a product quietly imbued with a deep affection for Kushiro's nature. It is a sweet treat you will want to gently take home as a memory of your journey through Kushiro.
