Takasebune Yokan
The 'Takasebune' once traveled the rivers of Okayama. This is an Okayama specialty featuring eye-catching paper containers shaped like those very boats. The Takasebune played a leading role in river transport, carrying cargo and people, and long supported the logistics of Okayama. This yokan is produced by Komiya Yokan, founded in Ochiai, Maniwa City, in the first year of Meiwa (1t64). It is a long-established shop known as the origin of Ochiai Yokan. The slender container holds yokan that, after sitting for a while, develops a thin film of sugar on the surface, which acts as an accent to the flavor. This is a dish where the history of the river overlaps with the moist, well-kneaded yokan. Please savor it slowly while feeling the atmosphere of Okayama. You will surely want to eat it again.
