Ote Manju
One of the 'Three Great Manju of Japan,' this is a representative confection of Okayama. This is Ote Manju. Ote Manju Ibe-ya was founded in Tempo 8 (1837). The name originates from its creation around the Otemon Gate of Okayama Castle. It was highly favored by the Lord of the Bizen Clan at the time, the Ikeda Marquis, and became an indispensable sweet for tea ceremonies. It is said that even the name 'Ote' was bestowed by the Marquis. Its characteristic feature is smooth koshi-an (smooth red bean paste) wrapped in a thin dough made from koji starter prepared from high-quality Bizen rice, infused with the flavor of amazake. With its elegant sweetness and a subtle aroma of amazake, it is a pride of Okayama, loved for over 180 years.
