Tenryuan Murasuzume
This is the Kurashiki specialty 'Murasuzume' produced by Tenryuan, a Japanese confectionery shop in Kurashiki. It features a thin, crepe-like dough made with eggs, wrapping a generous amount of chunky red bean paste. Created in 1877 by Kikado of Kurashiki, Murasuzube was inspired by the shape of a traditional woven hat (amigasa) and the sight of sparrows gathering around ripening rice stalks. Tenryuan's Murasuzume is characterized by its generous filling and a moist, smooth texture. You can enjoy the harmony between the soft, egg-rich dough—often called a Japanese-style crepe—and the gentle sweetness of the chunky red bean paste. Take home a taste nurtured by the history of Kurashiki as a souvenir of your trip to the Bikan Historical Area. Please pick one up while reminiscing about the white-walled streets and willow-lined paths.
