Ohara Museum of Art Wasanbon

An original Wasanbon (fine sugar) confection from the Ohara Museum of Art, which opened in Kurashiki in 1930 as Japan's first museum of Western art. You can enjoy an elegant, light sweetness that melts instantly in your mouth. Wasanbon is a fine-grained sugar used for traditional Japanese sweets, traditionally produced in regions like Shikoku. It is a type of dry confectionery (higashi) finished by skilled artisans by hand. This Wasan-bon from the Ohara Museum features designs symbolic of the museum, making it a unique item that can be enjoyed alongside the lingering impressions of masterpieces by artists such as El Greco and Monet. The museum is renowned for its collection of famous paintings gathered by Kurashiki businessman Sonokuro Ohara. It is also perfect as a souvenir of a trip to the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. Please take your time to enjoy both its beautiful appearance and gentle sweetness with both your eyes and your palate.
