Shimoyama Shojuken Chofu

Chofu is a traditional confection produced by Shimoyama Shojuken, a long-established shop in Okayama City, and is counted as one of Okayama's four great famous sweets. You can enjoy an elegant and soft taste, with gyuhi (sweet mochi) wrapped in a thinly baked skin. It is said that the name 'Chofu' originates from hand-woven hemp cloth that was once paid to the Imperial Court as tax. The name came about because the shape of the sweet resembled the appearance of wrapped cloth. Shimoyama Shojuken, founded in 1887, has carefully continued to make this confection, which was devised at the end of the Edo period. Its long history lives on in every bite. Its gentle melting texture and simple sweetness are flavors loved across generations. This is a recommended item when you want to deliver the traditions of Okayama.
