Hirakawa Sesshu-an Sesshu Monaka

Sesshu Monaka was born in Soja City, a place closely associated with the master painter Sesshu. This is a substantial Japanese sweet featuring a generous amount of bean paste inside a crisp monaka wafer. Sesshu, famous for his ink wash paintings, is said to have been born in present-day Soja City in 1420. He is one of Japan's most iconic painters, known for the anecdote that while training at Hoafuku-ji temple as a child, he drew a picture of a mouse using only his tears after being punished and tied to a pillar. This monaka, named after his birthplace, embodies pride in the great figure nurtured by this land. With an elegant sweetness intended to be savored slowly with tea, it is the perfect item to take home as a memory of your visit to Soja.
