Miyake Seika Bitchu Kagura Mask Monaka
A playful monaka shaped like the masks used in 'Bitchu Kagura,' a local performing art passed down for about 400 years in Okayama. Miyake Seika has captured the charm of this community-rooted traditional art in this confectionery. Bitchu Kagura is a style of kagura (sacred dance) inherited in the Bitchu region, including Takahashi and Ibara cities, and is designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. It is said that during the Edo period, the scholar Seirin Kokkyo structured 'Kamiyo Kagura' based on the myths of the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, incorporating elements of Noh and Kyogen to develop it into the glamorous dance seen today. The expressive kagura masks used in these performances have become the shape of this monaka. With a crisp, fragrant wafer and plenty of bean paste, you can savor the depth of Okayama's culture while admiring the different facial expressions of each mask.
