Kurawanka Senbei
A famous senbei (rice cracker) from Hirakata, named after the 'Kurawanka boats' that traveled along the Yodo River during the Edo period. The name originates from the merchant boats that sold mochi and sake to passengers of the shared-ride ships known as Sanjukkoku-bune, calling out energetically, 'Eat some rice (kura)!' and 'Drink plenty of sake (man-kai)!' Using such boisterous language to call customers was a specialty of that era. As a confection that conveys this historical anecdote, these fragrantly baked senbei remain popular today. Hirakata was a post town that flourished through Yodo River water transport, and the culture of the Kurawanka boats has been passed down as a local pride. With its crispy texture and rustic flavor, each cracker allows you to feel the history of Osaka.
