Uncle Rikuro's Freshly Baked Cheesecake
"Cake should be cold"—this Osaka souvenir classic brilliantly overturned that common wisdom of the time. Rikuro Ojisan's shop is a confectionery store named after the friendly nickname of its founder, Rikuro Nishimura. They released their "Freshly Baked Cheesecake" in 1984. Using Danish cream cheese and a layer of raisins at the bottom, they bake it to a fluffy perfection and intentionally serve it while still warm—an idea born from the founder's background in traditional Japanese confectionery that captured many people's hearts. With its freshly baked, jiggly texture and the gentle flavor of egg and cheese, its affordable price is also a major draw, and lines at the storefront remain endless even today.
