Kurawanka Mochi (Kinako)
Soft mochi coated in fragrant roasted soybean powder (kinako). It is a simple yet irresistible flavor. The roots of Kurawanka Mochi lie in the 'Kurawanka-bune' boats that traveled the Yodo River during the Edo period. These boats would call out to passengers, "Mochi kurawanka?" (Won't you eat some mochi?), selling mochi and soups, becoming a beloved specialty around Hirakata, Osaka. Kurawanka Mochi was created to evoke that scene. The soft mochi, coated in deeply roasted kinako, is sometimes served in a vessel resembling a reed boat, accompanied by a toothpick. With just one bite, the history of the Yodo River comes to life. It is a famous confection of Hirakata that allows you to taste the scent of history.
