After a sharp spicy kick, the gentle aroma of ginger spreads softly. This ginger candy is made by 'Udonya Fuichi Yakuhonpo,' which has been operating in Osaka since the Meiji era. Every year, they select the spiciest and most aromatic ginger and continue to uphold a laborious traditional method of steaming it before kneading, much like making herbal medicine. No synthetic colorings, preservatives, or flavorings are used at all. The medium-spicy version features a perfect balance of ginger's umami and heat, with an appealingly light aftertaste that makes it easy to eat. Not only great as a snack, but also a welcome treat when your throat feels uneasy. When you take one in your mouth, you feel as if your body is gradually warming up.
