Tsuruya Hachiman Hyakuraku (Chunky Bean Paste)
Established in 1863 (Bunkyu 3), Tsuruya Hachiman is a long-established shop located in Korabashi, Osaka. This is the chunky bean paste version of their signature confection, "Hyakuraku." The techniques of the main house inherit the methods of the famous Genroku-era shop "Toraya Iori," accumulating a long history. Hyakura is a Monaka (wafer) where the fragrant baked shell and the bean paste are sealed separately, to be combined by yourself just before eating. This allows the shell to remain crispy and fragrant, while the bean paste stays moist. In this chunky version, large red beans are cooked until plump and wrapped in a chewy shell. It is a luxurious bite where the texture of the red beans, elegant sweetness, and the fragrance of the shell become one. A deeply flavorful Japanese sweet perfect for accompanying tea, unique to this long-established shop.
