Ginsen Taiyaki Monaka
Located midway between Kyoto and Kobe, Osaka is a city where Japanese and Western cultures intersect. Reflecting this character, Ginsen of Kadoma, Osaka, created this 'Taiyaki Monaka' in 2015. It takes monaka, a staple of Japanese confectionery, and shapes it into a taiyaki (fish-shaped cake). The shells, made from 100% domestic rice, are toasted to a golden brown and individually handcrafted into three-dimensional taiyaki shapes. The fillings come in various flavors such as chocolate, milk, and matcha, making it a truly fusion-style creative wagashi that incorporates Western flavors into Japanese sweets. With its crispy, fragrant shell and adorable appearance, it is perfect as a souvenir. It is a playful treat that is fun to look at and delicious to eat.
