Nagasakado Castella Rusks
Nagasakado is a long-established store in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Founded in 1919 (Taisho 8) by Genshiro Araki, a native of Nagasaki, this famous shop is known for inventing canned Castella, which became widely popular as a long-lasting version of the cake. 'Castella Rusks' were created by further baking their signature Castella. By re-baking the ends of the Castella—which were originally considered surplus—the moist umami of the cake was transformed into a crispy new texture. This baked treat, unique to a long-established shop, features a concentrated sweetness and buttery aroma that can only be achieved with high-quality Castella. The crunchy texture is truly addictive.
