Agensha Wa-Yo

A 'Wa-Yo' (Japanese-Western) confection that combines nuts and chocolate based on traditional okoshi (puffed rice) techniques. As the name suggests, it is a signature sweet from Agensha where Japanese and Western flavors harmonize beautifully. Agensha is a long-established okoshi shop founded in 1950 in Sumiyoshi, Osaka. This 'Wa-Yo' utilizes the technique of binding okoshi with sugar and starch syrup to coat almonds in candy; it is said to have been devised by the second-generation owner. The addition of coffee prevents it from being overly sweet, providing a subtle charm. With a crunchy bite, a bittersweetness similar to milk caramel and a rich aroma spread through the mouth. It is a well-known Osaka specialty that was even served at the G20 Osaka Summit.
