Oguraya Yamamoto Kombu Pie (Plain)
A somewhat rare treat where the savory umami of kombu (kelp) peeks through crispy pie dough—a meeting of Japanese and Western flavors. This was crafted by Oguraya Yamamoto, a specialty kelp shop in Osaka. Oguraya Yamamoto is a long-established kelp merchant founded in 1848. Known for their salted kelp "Ebisu-me," they applied their traditional kelp processing techniques to create this "Kombu Pie" in 2017. The umami of the kelp and a hint of saltiness melt into buttery pie dough, creating a deliciousness that is not sweet yet keeps you coming back for more. It pairs well with both tea and alcohol. This product encapsulates Osaka's food culture, something only possible because it was created by a long-standing establishment that has focused solely on kelp for over 170 years.
