Ika Shumai (Squid Dumplings)

With a single bite, it melts softly like light snow. From within, the elegant sweetness and plump texture of the squid emerge—this is the squid shumai born in Yobuko. It originated in Yobuko Town, Saga Prefecture (now Karatsu City). It is said that 'Manbo,' a restaurant floating on the sea, created it through trial and error to make use of leftover squid during the winter months when customers decreased. It features a gentle flavor, with sweet onions and eggs kneaded into the soft squid minced meat. While delicious freshly steamed and warm, it can also be enjoyed via mail order. A delightful feature is that it can be enjoyed in various ways, such as steamed or fried. It is a staple Yobuko souvenir loved by everyone from children to adults.
