These sweets use a precious type of fermented tea that is among only a few found in Japan. Kamikatsu Awa Bancha, passed down in Kamikatsu Town, is a rare post-fermented tea produced by soaking tea leaves in wooden tubs for lactic acid fermentation. Registered as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2021, it is a treasure that Tokushima is proud of.
