Okayama White Peach
The Okayama white peach is a fruit that tells you in a single bite why Okayama is called the 'Fruit Kingdom.' Peach cultivation in Okayama dates back about 150 years to the beginning of the Meiji era, when water-sweet peaches were introduced from China. The first white peach was born in the prefecture in 1901, and the Shimizu White Peach was discovered in Haga, Okayama City, in 1918. The cultivation method—where each small fruit is individually hand-bagged from a young age—is rare even nationwide; by blocking direct sunlight, an elegant whiteness, melting flesh, and delicate sweetness are created. It is a summer treasure of Okayama, preserved through painstaking effort. Please enjoy a juicy, tender bite.
