White Peach

岡山県·特産品

White Peach

When you gently peel the skin, luscious juice overflows from the smooth, white flesh. Upon taking a bite, an elegant sweetness spreads through your mouth before melting away. It is said that peaches originated in China, and varieties such as Shanghai Suimitsu were brought to Japan around 1875. Through continuous breeding efforts in Okayama, the 'White Peach,' known for its whiteness and fine texture, was born in 1901 (Meiji 34). Furthermore, in 1932 (Showa 7), Chuichi Nishioka of Haga, Kita-ku, Okayama City, introduced the 'Shimizu Hakuto,' famous for its soft texture. A stone monument marking the birthplace still stands by the edge of the Shinike pond. These are Okayama's prideful fruits, grown with care by bagging and tending to each one individually. They are the ultimate summer delicacy.
