Tanada Rice (Ohaganishi Terraced Rice Fields)
In the Ohagani-nishi district of Misaki Town, breathtakingly beautiful terraced rice fields spread across the mountain valleys. This scenic spot, selected as one of the '100 Best Terraced Rice Fields in Japan,' features approximately 750 paddies coloring the slopes. What is grown in these fields is 'Tanada Rice.' At an altitude of about 400m, the pure water springing from the mountains and the significant temperature difference between day and night produce high-quality rice with a rich sweetness. Seedlings of Akita Komachi and Koshihikari are planted in the paddies that form beautiful curves. This terraced rice, passed down through much time and effort, cooks up fluffy, with umami residing in every single grain. It is a nutritious flavor nurtured by Japan's original landscape.
