Olives of Setouchi City
Setouchi City's Ushimado area, often referred to as the 'Aegean Sea of Japan,' is a land where olives thrive in a landscape reminiscent of the Mediterranean. The warm, low-rainfall climate with long hours of sunshine is perfect for olive cultivation. The history of olives here is long; it began in 1942 when a local wealthy individual reclaimed a pine forest and planted 39 saplings received from Shodoshima. Eventually, they succeeded in commercializing olive oil for cosmetic use. The beautiful scenery of scattered islands also resembles the Mediterranean itself. Freshly pressed olive oil and table olives are highly aromatic and rich in flavor. Why not bring these blessings, grown under the abundant, gentle sunlight of Setouchi, to your dining table?
