Mushake Oysters

Mushake in Setouchi City is one of Japan's leading oyster-producing regions, following only Hiroshima and Miyagi. These oysters are raised in a beautiful inlet that has been selected as one of the top 100 Japanese sunrises for its 'Dawn of Mushake Setomon'. Surrounded by islands, Mushake Bay features calm tidal currents and is blessed with nutrient-rich waters. With minimal river inflow, the salinity levels are ideal, creating a prime fishing ground where high-quality plankton thrives. Notably, their '3-year oysters'—which are raised for three years, more than twice the duration of standard aquaculture—are known for being large and intensely sweet. We invite you to taste these rich, single pearls raised in seas dyed by the morning glow. It is a luxurious winter delicacy, polished over time by the nature of Setouchi.
