Kasaoka Reclaimed Land Strawberries
Pick a glossy, bright red ripe berry and pop it into your mouth. The moment it bursts, a juicy sweetness overflows, and a gentle aroma drifts through your nose. These are grown in the reclaimed lands of Kasaoka Bay, spreading across the Seto Inland Sea. Since around 1998, elevated cultivation—which allows for harvesting while standing—has become widespread, and varieties such as Benihoppe, Sagahonoka, and Yumenoka are carefully nurtured. The large and solidly sweet Benihoppe, and the Yumenoka, where a moderate acidity enhances the sweetness—every variety turns bright red after soaking up plenty of sunlight.
