Shine Muscat
Enjoy large, glossy berries with a crisp snap, without worrying about seeds or skins. With overflowing juice and an aromatic muscat scent—Shine Muscat is currently the most popular variety of grape. Since the Meiji era, Okayama has been the "Holy Land of Muscat," cultivating grapes in glass greenhouses. By being among the first to use greenhouse cultivation to grow this fruit, which is sensitive to high temperature and humidity, Okayama has accounted for approximately 90% of the nation's Muscat of Alexandria production. While Shine Muscat itself is a relatively new variety developed by NARO and registered in 2006, the cultivation techniques perfected in Okayama further enhance its sweetness and quality. Carefully grown cluster by cluster, Okayama-grown grapes are also known under the "Hareō" brand, making them jewel-like grapes often chosen for gifts.
