Shiojiri Wine
As you tilt your glass, a magnificent aroma unfolds over time, revealing depth and strength from beneath its delicate surface. This is a red Merlot born from Shiojiri's Kikyo-ga-hara region. The cultivation of Merlot began in this land in 1976. When 'Kikyo-ga-hara Merlot' was introduced starting with the 1985 vintage, it won consecutive Grand Prizes at international wine competitions in 1989 and 1990, establishing the region's fame worldwide. Today, many wineries are concentrated within Shiojiri City, offering the pleasure of comparing the different expressions of Merlot produced by each maker. With fruitiness reminiscent of ripe berries and a supple richness, pairing it with meat dishes further enhances the depth nurtured by the Kikyo-ga-hara soil.
