Plum of Ome
In early spring, the slopes of Yoshino Plum Village are dyed in pale shades of white and red. As its name suggests, Ome is a town that has walked alongside the plum tree since ancient times. However, these plums faced a great ordeal. In 2009, the Plum Rosette Virus was discovered in Ome City, and to prevent it from spreading, many plum trees—including those in beloved local parks—were cut down. Even so, the town did not give up. A revitalization plan was created, and since 2016, replanting has been permitted, with young plum trees being nurtured one by one. The plum blossoms that have begun to bloom carry a prayer for revival. Along with its fragrance, this is a dish where you can truly taste that story.
