Horses of Urakawa
The Hidaka region is Japan's premier horse-breeding area, known as the 'Home of Champions.' One of its central hubs is the town of Urakawa. The history began in 1858 when the Shogunate established horse pastures, and in 1907, the production of light horses intensified with the establishment of the Hidaka Stallion Farm. Today, approximately 80% of Japan's racehorses are born here in Hidaka. The sight of Thoroughbreds nestled together with their foals in vast pastures is the very essence of Hidaka. The elegant figures of horses galloping across green hills captivate the hearts of all who visit. While not a food specialty, the ranch culture and majestic landscapes nurtured alongside these horses are a major highlight of traveling through Urakawa. Why not visit the hills of Hidaka to encounter these Thoroughbreds?
