Rebun Sea Urchin
Rebun Island, known as the 'Floating Island of Flowers,' is Japan's northernmost remote island. Its waters are also a treasure trove of sea urchins. From March to September, Ezo Bafun and Kita Murasaki sea urchins can be harvested on Rebun Island. Because they grow by feeding on Rishiri kelp from Kaika, which is rich in ocean nutrients, the flavor is exceptional. The charm lies in being able to compare two distinct personalities: the Ezo Bafun, with its orange flesh and intense sweetness, and the Kita Murasaki, with its light yellow flesh and refreshing taste. In summer, alpine plants bloom in abundance, creating a landscape worthy of the name 'Floating Island of Flowers.' Enjoying sea urchin while gazing at these lovely flowers is a delicacy that can only be experienced on this northern island.
