Toyotomi Onsen
This is a rare type of hot spring, said to be the only one of its kind in Japan. Located in Toyotomi Onsen, the northernmost hot spring village in Japan. The origin of this hot spring dates back to the late Taisho era. It began when hot water unexpectedly sprang forth along with natural gas during oil exploration. As a result, the water contains oil and carries a faint scent of petroleum. This oil content is believed to be beneficial for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, attracting many people from all over the country for recuperation and medicinal bathing.
