Sarufutsu Butter
In Sarufutsu Village, famous for its scallops, there is another prideful bounty: the taste of dairy raised on vast pastures. In Sarufutsu, Japan's northernmost village, dairy farming is one of the two main pillar industries alongside fishing. From the milk of dairy cows raised freely amidst the harsh yet magnificent nature of the Okhotsk region, flavorful butter is handcrafted. At the 'Milk and Meat Pavilion,' it is said that all the raw milk delivered from the village's dairy farmers is processed into butter and ice cream entirely by hand. When spread on bread, the sweet aroma of milk and a mellow richness gently spread through your senses. This is a product that conveys the other true strength of Sarufutsu, a place often thought of only as a seaside village.
