Date Vegetables
There is a city called Date that bears a nickname unlike anything else in Hokkaido: the 'Shonan of the North.' Due to the influence of the warm Tsushima Current, snowfall remains low even in winter, and the first frost occurs around November, the latest in Hokkaido. Leveraging this mild climate and well-drained volcanic ash soil, more than 200 varieties of vegetables are cultivated in Date City throughout the year. This diversity is unparalleled elsewhere in Hokkaido, and the city is also known as one of the 'birthplaces of Hokkaido agriculture,' having adopted Western-style farming methods since the early Meiji era. The colorful, fresh vegetables lined up at direct sales markets possess a flavor that commands respect even from culinary professionals. Please come and taste the sweetness nurtured by the earth of Date.
