Fukagawa Sobameshi
It is a bit different from the dish you might imagine when you hear the name 'Sobameshi.' Fukagawa Sobameshi is a unique rice ball that combines Fukagawa-grown buckwheat and Fukagawa-grown rice. This local delicacy was created to promote two of Fukagawa's proud specialties: rice and buckwheat. Inside the rice ball, buckwheat grains are fried until crispy in oil, and the seasoning uses buckwheat dipping sauce (soba tsuyu). The combination of aromatic fragrance and moderate saltiness is truly addictive. In fact, Fukagawa City has the second-largest buckwheat cultivation area in the country. You can enjoy this one-of-a-kind dish, unique to Fukagawa as both a rice-producing and buckwheat-producing region, at places like roadside stations. If you see it, please be sure to give it a try.
