Yubari Melon

The orange flesh was not initially accepted. At the time, green flesh was considered the standard for melons. The vibrant color of Yubari Melons was seen as unusual, making it difficult to gain a reputation. Nevertheless, in 1960, 17 volunteers in the financially struggling city of Yubari began cultivation, and the 'Yubari King Melon' was born the following year. Created by crossbreeding Spicy Cantaloupe (father) and Earl's Favorite (mother), this variety achieved juicy flesh with little fiber, a rich aroma, and a melting sweetness. Today, it is an extraordinary brand, being the first in Japan to be registered under the Geographical Indication (GI) protection system. You can taste the near-obsessive passion poured into every single melon.
