Tomakomai Curry Ramen
Born in the port city of Tomakomai, this is a spicy local specialty ramen. Tomakomai Curry Ramen was developed in 1965 at the local ramen shop 'Aji no Daio'. When it was first released, it was criticized as being 'unconventional' and did not sell at all, but because the founder continued to make it, it eventually grew into a beloved dish among the fishermen and factory workers of the port town. In 2022, it was also certified as a '100-Year Food' by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. With curly noodles clinging to a spicy curry soup, it is a flavor that warms you to the core. The thick, viscous soup coats the noodles perfectly, allowing you to enjoy it piping hot until the very last bite. It is a dish that represents the food culture of Tomakomai, with various shops competing through their own unique spice blends.
