Akanesasasu
A moist brown sugar manju (steamed bun) that conveys the romance of the Manyoshu era to the present day. This item was created with deep passion by the long-established Kumamoto confectionery, 'Okashi no Kohme.' 'Akanesasasu' is a pillow word appearing in a poem composed by the female poet Nukata no Okimi, referring to the glow of the sun or purple hues. The area around Hakusan in Kumamoto City, where Kohme originated, was a production site for gromwell (murasaki), used as a purple dye, during the Manyoshu era. The name was chosen in connection with this history. A glossy, reddish-brown bean paste made with Okinawa brown sugar is softly wrapped in a fragrant dough. Its elegant and gentle sweetness is perfect for a relaxing tea break. It invites you to savor it while reflecting on ancient tales.
