Kaneda no Kurobo
A Kurobo (black stick) that has been carefully hand-baked one by one by artisans for over 80 years in Yuemae Town, Kumamoto. Its fluffy and chewy texture is the primary reason it has continued to be loved for so long. Produced by Kaneda Seika-ho, founded in 1935. The dough, made with fresh local eggs, is kneaded with molasses which serves as the base for the brown sugar, then quickly baked at high temperatures. It is then cut into triangles and each piece is manually coated with rich black syrup. This triangular shape is inspired by Mount Ichifusa, a symbol of Okukuma. The deep richness of the brown sugar and the soft mouthfeel are only possible because of this traditional handmade process. It is a simple, warm taste of home.
