Hikoichi Honpo Tonchi Hikoichi Monaka
This monaka is cutely shaped like Hikoichi, the witty character from Yatsushiro folklore. The protagonist of wit, alongside characters like Ikkyu-san and Kichiroku-san, greets travelers in the form of a sweet. Hikoichi Honpo is a long-established confectionery shop that began in 1896 as a stall at Yatsushiro Station. Created in 1953, the 'Hikoichi Monaka' features a shell made of 100% domestic glutinous rice, generously filled with homemade adzuki bean paste and white bean paste made from Hokkaido adzuki beans and teboka beans. It features an award-winning shell that won the Honorary President's Award at the National Confectionery Expo, paired with the gentle sweetness of bean paste slow-cooked by artisans. It is a taste of the hometown that you must try when visiting Yatsushiro.
