Hokkyodo Oshiro Monaka
An elegant monaka shaped like Matsumae Castle, the only castle in Hokkaido. This is a famous confection carefully crafted by Hokkyodo, an established shop that has continued its tradition since 1937 in the castle town of Matsumae. The shop blends seamlessly into the historic streetscape. Inside the crispy shell, there is a generous amount of chunky red bean paste made from Hokkaido-grown Dainagon adzuki beans. A sesame paste version is also available, offering a refined sweetness. In a shop reminiscent of an Edo-period merchant house with tiled roofs and white walls, they continue to pass down this unchanging flavor through generations.
