Yuri Monaka
A monaka (wafer sandwich) made with lily bulbs, produced by Fukido in Otofune Town, Hokkaido. This elegant confection allows you to fully enjoy the taste of the local specialty, the lily bulb. Inside the shell, which is shaped like a lily, is an unexpected filling: bean paste made from lily bulbs. By using lily bulbs that have been slowly aged at low temperatures for two years, its refined sweetness is brought out. Lily bulbs are a very precious ingredient, taking about three years from planting to harvest. It is also a highly accomplished sweet, having won the Grand Prize at the National Confectionery Expo in 1994.
