Potekotan

A Hokkaido-exclusive snack produced by Calbee. It consists of bite-sized pieces made by finely chopping Hokkaido potatoes and onions and pressing them together. In the Ainu language, 'kotan' means 'a place where people live/a village.' The name is said to have been chosen because it represents the way the potatoes and onions are huddled closely together. It is a lovely name that reflects respect for the land of Hokkaido. With a crispy, light texture, the sweetness of the onion and the umami of the Hokkaido potatoes spread throughout your mouth. This popular Hokkaido souvenir is something both adults and children won't be able to stop eating.
