Rokkatei Minazuki

A seasonal limited edition item, this is the June wagashi (Japanese sweet) 'Minazuki' crafted with Hokkaido ingredients. Minazuki is a Japanese sweet originating from Kyoto, consisting of white uiro (steamed rice cake) topped with sweetened azuki beans and cut into triangles. The triangular shape represents ice to ward off the heat, while the red color of the azuki beans is said to drive away evil spirits. There is an old custom of eating this during 'Nagoshi no Harae' on June 30th each year to cleanse the impurities of the past half-year and pray for good health in the coming half-year. Produced by Rokkatei, founded in Obihiro in 1933, this item adds a subtle touch of Hokkaido charm to the traditional taste of Kyoto. It is a Japanese sweet unique to early summer that makes you feel the beginning of the season.
